It takes a leap of faith to move out of a much-loved family home and into an apartment. For celebrated interior designer Jonathan Richards, making the transition an enriching experience was top of mind when he was designing the interiors for Premier Place, an elegant new collection of homes in Neutral Bay.

“We tried to really think about the elements of a house that are lovely, which you almost take for granted, and transpose those into apartments,”

says Richards, director at Richards Stanisich.

“The result actually does have house-like proportions and houselike features so that for a downsizer, yes, it’s a change of environment in that you’re living in a building with other apartments, but at the same time all of the smaller, really beautiful elements of a home have been translated here.”

Think high ceilings, wide corridors and grand entrances in each of the 25 apartments building designed by ess architects for developer Podia.

The neighbourhood’s leafy streetscapes are reflected in Dangar Barin Smith’s design for cascading foliage across the brick, glass and concrete facade.

Thoughtfully designed joinery and refined materials, with a choice of tumbled limestone or stacked parquetry engineered timber flooring, enhance the sense of timeless luxury. Other standout features include ultra-generous en suites, walk-in wardrobes, spacious living areas and kitchens with island benches, butler’s pantries and free-standing cocktail cabinets.

The pros and cons of development in your suburb

Premier Place is 10 minutes’ walk from Neutral Bay village, to the north, and about the same distance from the harbour foreshore and ferry wharf. Forsyth Park, St Leonards Park and Cammeray Golf Club are all within walking distance. Investors and young professionals have also bought into the project.
